May 26, 2020 Update

The 2020-2021 Budget Hearing/Regular BOE Meeting will be held via ZOOM Tues., May 26, 2020 at 6:00 pm.  You may click on the following link to watch -

May 20, 2020 Voting Update

2020-2021 Budget Vote Public Hearing

The Public Budget Hearing of the DeRuyter Central School District for the purpose of discussion of the expenditure and budgeting of funds for the 2020-2021 school year will be held virtually via Zoom/Live Stream Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Community questions for the Board may be submitted to the District Clerk calling 315-852-3400 x 7403 (please leave a message) or e-mail welsh@deruytercentral.org by 5:00 pm on May 26, 2020.
 
Voter Registration Information  
 
The DeRuyter Central School Board of Education has adopted personal voter registration for all eligible voters residing in the DeRuyter Central School District.  Any person who is currently enrolled with the Boards of Elections for the counties of Madison, Cortland, Chenango, and Onondaga will automatically be enrolled in the school personal registration and will not have to register separately with the School District.  Any person who is not currently enrolled with the Boards of Election for the above listed counties, shall be entitled to have his or her name placed upon the register until May 29, 2020.  He/she must present himself or herself personally for registration and upon proving that he or she is entitled to vote in the District, may have his or her name placed on the register at that time.  Given school closure, interested individuals are requested to contact the District Clerk 315-852-3400 x 7403 or welsh@deruytercentral.org prior to arriving at the District Office. To be entitled to vote in the District, a person must be a citizen of the United States, must be at least eighteen years of age, and must be a resident of the District for a period of thirty (30) days prior to June 9, 2020.   Additionally, unregistered voters may register to vote with the Board of Elections by filing an application online with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (“DMV”).  Information is available at:  https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/electronic-voter-registration-application.
 
Absentee Ballot Information
 
We will be mailing the absentee ballots to eligible, registered voters very soon.  You will receive an envelope with the following contents:
 
  • The Official Absentee Ballot
  • An Official Absentee Ballot Envelope
  • A return, self-addressed, stamped envelope
 
After reading the instructions on the Absentee Ballot, marking the Ballot as instructed, fold the Ballot and place it in the Official Absentee Ballot Envelope, sign, date, and seal the Absentee Ballot Envelope.  Then, place the Absentee Ballot Envelope in the Return, Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope and mail the envelope.  The ballot must be received in the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 pm on June 9, 2020.  Any ballot received after that date and time cannot be counted.
 
Proposition Information
 
There are four (4) propositions on the ballot for the 2020-2021 Budget Vote:
 
Proposition No. 1- 2020-21 School Budget: Shall the Board of Education adopt a budget for the DeRuyter Central School District in the amount of $11,307,426 for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2020? 
 
Proposition No. 2- Bus Proposition:  Shall the Board of Education purchase and finance $215,000 at an estimated cost not to exceed $215,000 including necessary furnishings, fixtures and equipment and all other costs incidental thereto and expend a total sum not to exceed $215,000, which is estimated to be the total maximum cost thereof, and pay for the vehicles by the levy of a tax which is hereby approved in the amount of $215,000, which tax shall be levied and collected in annual installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education and in anticipation of the collection of such tax, bonds and notes of the District are hereby authorized to be issued at one time, or from time to time, in the principal amount not to exceed $215,000 and a tax is hereby voted to pay the principal and interest on said obligations when due?
 
Proposition No. 3- Library Contribution: Shall the annual appropriation for the DeRuyter Free Library within the DeRuyter Central School District be increased from its current level of $39,331 per year to $40,117  per year, such sum to be raised by levy of a tax upon the taxable property of the District?
 
Proposition No. 4 – District Wide Summer Recreation: Shall the Board of Education of the DeRuyter Central School District be authorized to expend $17,500 for the district-wide summer swim and baseball programs administered by the Village of DeRuyter for the 2020-2021 school year, such sum to be raised by levy of a tax upon the taxable property of the District?
 
Board of Education Member Election
 
There are two (2) seats open due to the expiration of the term of members, Brandi Compton and Jodi Wiesing.  The following candidate(s) have filed a petition necessary to seek election and will appear on the June 9, 2020 ballot as follows:  Daniel Degear and Jodi Wiesing.

     The Annual Meeting and Election to elect Board of Education members, and to vote upon the propositions and appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures for the 2020-2021 school year, will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 by absentee ballot only,  Absentee Ballots will be mailed to all eligible, registered voters.  Any individual who does not receive a ballot, believes that s/he is entitled to receive a ballot, may contact the District Clerk at 315-852-3400 x 7403 or welsh@deruytercentral.org.  A list of persons to whom absentee ballots have been issued will be available for inspection in the District Clerk’s Office in the five days prior to the election, except Sundays.  Given school closure, interested individuals are requested to contact the District Clerk prior to arriving at the District Office.

     A copy of the statement of the amount of monies required for the 2020-2021 school year for school purposes may be obtained upon request on and after May 26, 2020 by contacting the District Clerk at 315-852-3400 x 7403 or welsh@deruytercentral.org. Residents may obtain a copy of the proposed budget at any district schoolhouse or on the District’s website, www.deruytercentral.org, on and after May 26, 2020.
 
     Two members of the Board of Education will be elected due to the expiration of the terms of members Brandi Compton and Jodi Wiesing.
 
     PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that petitions for nominating candidates for office must be filed in the District Clerk’s office by 5:00 p.m. on May 11, 2020.  Under NYS Governor Executive Order No. 202.26, there is no minimum threshold of signatures required on a nominating petition this year. 
  
     Military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the School District by requesting to be registered by the District Clerk at 315-852-3400 x 7403 or welsh@deruytercentral.org.  Registered, qualified voters of the School District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk at the phone number or email address listed above.   For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 pm on May 14, 2020.  In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail.
