Welcome to room 134!! I am going to share some ideas for activities which will help you to enrich your child's at-home reading experience. Of course, having your child read aloud to you on a daily basis is the best way to keep track of your child's reading progress. * Let your child take charge of his own reading. Encourage him to use picture clues, sound clues, other words in the sentence which will help with meaning clues, and visual clues which examine the length of the word, and the configuration of letters in the word. *Encourage your young reader to read without the use of finger-pointing. This will increase fluency (which is when the reading voice sounds like the talking voice) and comprehension, the goal of reading. *Remember that phonics has its place, but readers must use a combination of the strategies which were outlined above. HAVE FUN with the story! Mrs. Hudson
